Nasya

MEDICATED Nose TREATMENT - gateway to the brain

Nasya involves the instillation of medicated liquid (usually oil) into the nose, primarily to cleanse accumulated Kapha Dosha and toxins from the head, nose, throat, sinus, and neck regions. It works as a detox therapy or as a healing and nourishing therapy depending on the medication used.

In Ayurvedic tradition, the nose is considered the ‘door to your brain’ and consciousness. It makes sense then that Nasya treatment has been used to treat a variety of health concerns.

Nasya INDICATED FOR:

  • Cleanses Sinuses

  • Heals Migraines and Headaches

  • Expels Mucus buildup

  • Insomnia

  • Releases Toxins

  • Improves health

TREATMENT PROCESS

The treatment is started off with a 10-minute steam inhalation to prepare and clear the nasal passage and open the channels.

The therapy begins with local Snehana (oil application and massage) to the face, neck, and shoulders, focusing on sweeping strokes along the nasal bridge and forehead. Then a light Swedana (steaming or fomentation) using a hot towel or steam inhalation is conducted.

The head is then tilted back, one nostril is closed and the therapist instills drops of the medicated oil into the other nostril. This is repeated in the other nostril. The patient is asked to inhale deeply while the therapist massages the nasal bridge and forehead.
